QuoteSooner vs. ERP quoting modules (JobBOSS², E2, ProShop)
Short answer
An ERP quoting module is the right answer when you want the quote to become the job, the material order and the schedule without re-typing. QuoteSooner is not an ERP: it does the front of the work (reading the RFQ, tracing every value to the drawing, pricing from your rates and history, and sending the quote) and hands off the won quote. Many shops will want an ERP eventually; QuoteSooner is for the quoting desk before, or beside, one.
QuoteSooner is not an ERP
JobBOSS², E2 and ProShop run the whole shop: jobs, scheduling, purchasing, inventory, quality and, for some, accounting. Their quoting modules are one part of that system, and their strength is that a quote turns into a work order in the same database [1][6][8].
QuoteSooner does none of the shop management. It is quoting software only. A won quote becomes an order with its PO number and promised date, and your records export as CSV. There is no direct ERP integration today, so a won job is entered into your ERP by hand or from the export.
At a glance
| Compared | JobBOSS² | ProShop | QuoteSooner |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | A job shop ERP with accounting or QuickBooks sync, scheduling, inventory, purchasing, quality and CRM [2] | An ERP for machine shops with job tracking, inventory, tooling and a built-in QMS [8] | Quoting software only |
| Quote inputs | Burden rate, labor rate, quantity breaks, setup time, run/cycle time and outside services can be pre-set [1] | Templates with your shop’s labor, material and vendor costs; quantity breaks and profit guards [6] | Your machine, labour and setup rates; setup spread across each quantity break; one-time charges on their own lines |
| Reading the RFQ | Not stated on the quoting page; an AI BOM builder imports BOM data from PDFs, spreadsheets or images [13] | Not stated on the quoting page | Reads drawings, models and request text, with the page and exact words behind every value; unresolved values block sending |
| 3D models | Not stated | Not stated | STEP, IGES, STL and 3MF in a 3D viewer; holes, pockets and setups recognised |
| Past jobs | Not stated on the quoting page | Chip can “pull the job history” and learns “from historic jobs” [7] | What you charged last time shown on the part; revisions and won or lost reasons recorded |
| Quote to job | “Conversions to sales and work orders” [1] | “Convert to work orders in one click” [6] | Won quote becomes an order with PO and promised date; no ERP integration |
| Sending the quote | Not stated | Not stated | From your own Gmail or Outlook on the Shop plan, or as your shop via QuoteSooner on Free; the buyer can accept online with a PO number |
| Price | Not published; “tailored to the specific scale” of your operation [3] | Not published; “Pricing based on Users” [9] | Published on the pricing page; month to month |
| Implementation | Five phases, with a Quick Start program; no duration stated [5] | “16 to 18 weeks” [10] | Start in the browser; help setting up on request |
Where an ERP quoting module is stronger
- The quote becomes the job. JobBOSS² tracks “conversions to sales and work orders” and ProShop converts quotes “to work orders in one click” [1][6]. With QuoteSooner, the won job is re-entered or imported into whatever runs the shop.
- Quoting with the whole shop in view. JobBOSS² lets you “quote with visibility into your shop’s capacity” [1]. QuoteSooner knows your rates and quoting history, not your schedule.
- Real job costs. ProShop builds estimates from actual job costs and flags estimates that fall below target margins [6]. QuoteSooner learns from the prices you sent, not from what the job actually cost on the floor.
- One system. Accounting, purchasing, inventory, quality and scheduling in the same database [2][8]. If you are ready to run the business in one system, an ERP’s quoting module avoids a second tool.
- Deployment choices and regulated work. JobBOSS² lists multi-tenant cloud, private hosted cloud and on-premise options for US customers [4]; ProShop describes a FedRAMP Moderate Equivalent cloud for CMMC work [12]. QuoteSooner is cloud only and refuses controlled work.
Where QuoteSooner is different
- The front of the work. It starts from the customer’s drawings, models and email text, reads the part details and shows the page and exact words each came from. Anything it cannot support becomes a check, and the quote cannot be sent until every check is resolved.
- Your rates and your history, and nothing you didn’t approve. Prices come from your own rates and what you charged last time. An optional starting price from your rates and the model stays off until you switch it on or it has landed within 30% of five quotes you actually sent.
- Answered online. On the Shop plan the quote goes from your own Gmail or Outlook; on any plan the buyer can accept it with a PO number or decline on a web page.
- No implementation project. One plan per shop, month to month, with no seat minimum and no setup fee, and your records export any time. ProShop states its implementation takes 16 to 18 weeks [10].
Using both
Many shops quote in one place and run jobs in another. If your ERP’s estimating screen is where quotes go to wait, QuoteSooner can be the quoting desk: RFQs are read, checked, priced and sent there, and only the won work is entered in the ERP. The cost is a second system and a manual hand-off, because there is no integration today.
Which should you choose?
- Choose an ERP quoting module if you want quotes, jobs, purchasing and scheduling in one system, quote against capacity and actual job costs, or need on-premise or government-cloud hosting.
- Choose QuoteSooner if you have no ERP yet, or your ERP’s quoting is slow to use, and you want every RFQ read, traced to the drawing, priced from your own rates and history and accepted online, without an implementation project.
Questions
- Does QuoteSooner replace JobBOSS², E2 or ProShop?
- No. It replaces the quoting step only. Scheduling, purchasing, inventory, job costing and quality stay in your ERP.
- Does QuoteSooner integrate with my ERP?
- Not today. A won quote becomes an order with its PO number and promised date, and your records export as CSV, but nothing is pushed into an ERP automatically.
- Why not just use my ERP’s quoting module?
- If it is quick to use and your RFQs are simple, you should. QuoteSooner earns its place when RFQs pile up in an inbox: it reads drawings and models, traces each value to its source, and shows what you charged last time, before anyone opens the ERP.
- Do these ERPs publish their prices?
- No. JobBOSS² and ProShop both ask you to request pricing [3][9]. QuoteSooner publishes its price on the pricing page.
- What about E2?
- ECI’s E2 page is now a support page for existing customers. It lists estimating among E2’s modules, alongside accounting, job costing, quality control, purchasing, scheduling and shipping [11].
