Free CNC quote template.

An Excel workbook that prices every quantity break with the full setup spread across it, works out lead time and the dates the price holds, and prints the terms a quote needs. It opens on a worked example from Example Precision Ltd.; replace its numbers with yours. No sign-up.

What a good quote puts in writing.

From our guides to quoting CNC jobs and pricing quantity breaks.

The part, exactly as quoted

Part number, drawing revision, material and finish, matching the request. Any cost-driving callout you didn’t price is listed as not quoted.

A price for every quantity

Each break worked out as its own lot, carrying the full setup, not scaled from another break.

One-time charges, once

Tooling, fixtures or NRE on a line of their own, or spread into the unit prices. Either works if every order pays for its setup.

Lead time, and when it starts

In working days, with the outside-processing vendor’s turnaround added, counted from the PO and the 3D model.

How long the price holds

A date the quote is valid until, and a separate date for the material price, because material can move between the quote and the go-ahead.

Which terms apply

A lot price for the full order, or each line standing alone, in one sentence. And prices hold only at the quantities quoted.

Inside the workbook.

Prices use the method of the quantity break calculator.

Costing: your numbers in

Setup hours, cycle minutes, shop rate at cost, material and outside processing per piece, one-time charges, margin, and the lead-time and date inputs. Shaded cells are inputs; the rest are formulas.

Quote: what the buyer sees

Your header, the part, a price, extended price and lead time for up to eight quantities, the dates and the terms, all read from Costing. It prints on one page.

The PDF: the example, laid out

The same quote from Example Precision Ltd., with its costing on a second page, to see the finished layout before you open the workbook.

Questions about quoting.

Step by step: how to quote CNC machining jobs

What should a CNC quote include?

The part number, drawing revision, material and finish; a price for each quantity asked for; one-time charges; lead time and when it starts; how long the price and the material price hold; whether the prices are a lot price or each line stands alone; and anything not quoted.

How does the template price quantity breaks?

Each break is its own lot: setup hours × shop rate ÷ quantity, plus cycle minutes ÷ 60 × shop rate, plus material and outside processing, all divided by (1 − margin) and rounded to the cent. It is the same method as the quantity break calculator.

Should setup be charged separately on a CNC quote?

Either spread it across each quantity break or show it as its own one-time line. Both work, as long as every quantity carries its full setup.

Is the margin in the template a markup?

No. Margin is a share of the selling price: a 20% margin on a $100 cost gives $125, where a 20% markup gives $120. Enter the margin you want.
